President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to a fellow citizen by the name of Sgt. Robert J. Miller, a courageous man with a sense of purpose and values, for saving the lives of so many that, without this single action by Mr. Miller, would have died a gruesome death because of the fear and war that fill the air of our streets. Specifically written was the statement that "in 2008 after exposing himself to enemy fire and saving the lives of more than 20 U.S. and Afghan Troops."
The question that I keep asking myself is how can human nature be so stubborn and so reluctant to take a different course of action when everything is clearly pointing and shouting at us to take a different course of action, however we insist on taking actions that only reaps the Great Depression, the loss of our troops on foreign and incomprehensible soil, raising the population to new heights of unemployment and crime, which reaps nothing but people running around with their pants around their ankles reaching to the bottom of their pockets searching for a few dollars to save for their newly born's education - costing $500,000 rather than the current $100,000 that it costs. It seems plain ridiculous, however this mind set is the prevailing beliefs of people all over the place.
The question we should be asking is why is all this happening even though it is killing our past, present and future, both, literally and financially . The facts and evidence prevail only one conclusion. The facts are the sub-prime mortgage era, which pitched, to Americans all over the nation, the American dream of a yellow-picketed fence with a golden retriever and in bright black bold letters on the mailbox, "The Smiths," as exchange people's long-term debt and dreams for their own, the financial industry, greedy and self-loathing pockets, which already has a pocket full of thousand dollar bills with each one of our names on it. How much more of this can we take and stay silent." The pure and evident reason is greed. And, I'm sorry Getko, greed is not good. The most watched movie about ethical boundaries and morality, Wallstreet featuring Micheal Douglas, is exactly what is leading this country at the moment-greed is good to almost every big corporation CEO and congressman. Let's coin these greedy people as, "the green pigs." These green pigs are all for the notion of patriotism and war, so long as the money keeps flowing in with defense contracts fueling the banking and financial industry to do what exactly? Fill the mouths of these green pigs.
The point is we need more people like Sgt. Robert Miller, who not only had a voice, but woke up that morning and put on his uniform with pride, and understanding his purpose is to protect and serve. The green pigs notion is fool and collect the minds and money of so many of us. I tip my hat to Mr. Miller for having the courage, not only to put that uniform on proclaiming courage, but also performing the actions that uniform represents. My heart goes out to the family of Mr. Miller and his friends; we are in desperate need of more people with the guts to call out the elephant in the room and jump at the chance to say what is right and what is wrong- it is the duty of every one of us!
